Is ActiveGuard an encasement?
ActiveGuard is NOT an encasement. Encasements can work effectively to trap bed bugs that are missed or that that hatch after treatment. Properly-installed encasements seal the bed bugs inside and prevent them from getting fed, but must be left on for over a year, because adult bed bugs can live for up to 15 months inside of an encasement without a blood meal. There are many reports about encasements ripping or tearing upon installation or wearing holes during use. For that reason, encasements need to be regularly checked for holes, particularly in places where the encasement rubs against hard surfaces. Any hole or puncture may render the encasement useless or, worse, provide a harborage for bed bugs where the bed bugs are not visible but are capable of coming out to feed, which may mean another call to an unhappy customer. ActiveGuard doesn’t cover bed bugs, it kills them. ActiveGuard is not dependent on zippers or the integrity of the encasement material. Puncture holes in ActiveGuard will not affect the effectiveness of the liner, which is designed to kill bed bugs in mattresses and box springs.
Why do you only have four sizes?
Unlike encasements, which must provide a tight and precise fit around mattresses and box springs of varying lengths and depths, ActiveGuard is a fitted sheet that easily goes over the mattress and boxspring you are treating. The elastic holds the ActiveGuard liner firmly in place – even for deeper mattresses up to 17” deep or for longer mattresses found in college dorms. The strong, flexible material is forgiving, which allows extra leeway for PMPs when installing the liner on beds. Having less SKUs means less storage and less investment in inventory.
Do you have an ActiveGuard that can fully encase the mattress/box spring?
One of the strengths of ActiveGuard is that full encasement, which needs significant effort and usually requires more than one person, is not necessary for it to be effective. The liner wraps around the mattress and boxspring denying access to the underside of the mattress without crawling over the ‘active’ surface. PMPs have reported tremendous success using ActiveGuard as part of their bed bug protocols. Published field testing shows that ActiveGuard works -- reducing callbacks and providing a reliable, longer term alternative to other mattress treatment efforts.
Are other PMPs charging more for ActiveGuard as an ‘add-on’, or are they including the cost in their treatment?
When bed bugs strike, customers are looking for solutions that work, and ActiveGuard will help make your bed bug protocol the most effective it can be. PMPs building ActiveGuard into their bed bug treatment programs, including ActiveGuard Certified Bed Bug Professionals, will include ActiveGuard in their pricing.
Can ActiveGuard be used as part of a preventative program?
One of the largest potential costs for transient populations like hotels and shelters is the replacement of beds and mattresses infested with bed bugs. The ease of use and ability to kill bed bugs in mattresses makes ActiveGuard an efficient tool for protecting new and used mattresses from bed bug infestation, while killing any bed bugs that might try to make the mattress their home. ActiveGuard is the only approved product of which we are aware that has the potential to stop an infestation before is establishes and proliferates, making it a great tool for apartments, hotels, houses, colleges and multi-occupant dwellings.
Has ActiveGuard been tested?
ActiveGuard is one of the only bed bugs products with both published lab data and field data. The company has run successful studies in high risk shelters and also in hotels – targeting the highest risk rooms. Time after time, ActiveGuard has been shown to be effective – even in these hard to treat situations – where other methods have FAILED. ActiveGuard is not meant to be a stand-alone solution but should be a key part of any bed bug treatment solution. As a preventative strategy, ActiveGuard is unrivaled in its ability to prevent potential infestations and continues to kill beyond the life cycle of the bed bug.
